TITLE: Bittern in threat display

INFO: "A few days later from previous images and I'd returned to Ivy North Hide to try for more Bittern shots, along with two other photographer 'regulars' already waiting for the hide to be unlocked...

After just twenty minutes we spotted the north Bittern as he appeared behind 'the tree' and began to fish. No other Bitterns were seen.

After about 40 minutes the Bittern walked - unusually quickly and in the relative open - across towards the dead Birch stump and closer to the hide/fishing-spot just below the north window. As it neared the bank and came down to the water it ruffled its feathers, appearing twice its usual size - we weren't sure why it was doing this and just shot away - it then became apparent that, unbeknownst to us, there was a second Bittern right in front of the hide (to right of north window) which had been out of sight behind the edge of the reeds but which the north Bittern had obviously seen and had come over to see it off, performing this wonderful threat display (next image)."
