TITLE:  Canada Goose pair swimming in a line with young goslings between

INFO: "A familiar sight around Blashford Lakes in spring, and guaranteed to bring on the 'aaahs' from the non-hardened birdwatchers in the hides. This family group were swimming past the front of the Tern Hide in nice spring sushine which really showed off the golden colouring of the young downy goslings against the dark blue of the water, so I thought it worth a couple of shots, even though the water was a bit too rippled for my liking.

I love the way these geese often swim along in this almost regimented column formation - mum leading, kids following in orderly manner, dad bringing up the rear, both parents on full alert for any threats. Seems very sensible really - the young goslings are very vulnerable at this stage and though they look adorably cute and fluffy to us, they just look like a handy-sized meal to birds such as Great Black-back Gulls....

Would've made a nicer image in calmer water, especially when cropped to this panoramic-format as I've done here, but I never got the opportunity to improve on this image."
