TITLE:
| Three Coots pattering across calm water leaving splash lines
|
INFO:
| "Lovely calm water in the bay in front of Goosander Hide giving the possibly of working with reflections.
There were around six Coots mooching around by the shore along to the right (north) of the hide and they suddenly all flapped and pattered away from the shore for some reason. I didn't swing the camera round as early as I could've as they were a bit distant but once I saw the group pattern and the splash lines I quickly got on to the leading birds, got focus and popped off a short burst of shots before they all too soon came to rest again.
Action shots of small groups of birds can be a bit hit and miss in terms of the birds' poses and their positions relative to each other. This image nearly worked out well but not quite - I've got just the leading three birds going over the undisturbed water and leaving those great splash lines behind them - their poses are good but the nearest bird is a little too far forward (as well as being just off-focus...) and is obscuring part of the leading bird. This is the second shot taken and the first shot suffers similarly, and the two subsequent shots are worse. A pity I didn't get on the action a bit quicker."
