| "Another time in the Tern Hide and Coots were nearby again. They often provide some splash-filled action as they are very territorial and aggressive to each other - sometimes one will chase another a considerable distance across the water before the chaser is satisfied that the 'chasee' has been properly 'seen off'. Mostly such chases are brief affairs but occasionally they can develop into full-blown fights, so it often pays to watch their behaviour closely and be prepared with the camera.
Usually one can see a chase about to take place - these two were some way out when they first disagreed with each other which brought them both a little closer to the hide, so I was already focused on them when this second chase occurred. It was very brief, just four or five shots taken (at 8fps), but as they were a still a bit far out for my lens and the chase was roughly parallel to camera, both birds are within focus.
I like the way the chased bird seems to be looking back over its shoulder slightly as it runs over the water - good leg position in this shot. I was hoping for another chase as they came nearer to the hide but unfortunately the chasing bird decided that was enough."
