TITLE: Moorhen trying to perch on top of dead twig
INFO: "A beautiful morning early in the Goosander Hide at the beginning of September, with clear skies and millpond-calm water in front of the hide. The Sand Martin nesting-bank was empty now but Kingfishers were visiting more and landing on the perches in front of the hide now that it was quieter without the clamour of the martins. A pair of Moorhens were often to be seen mooching around in front of the hide and this one entertained us by climbing up this stick twig in the water and trying to perch at the end of it, for reasons known only to itself. This it found a bit difficult and so it wobbled and flapped on the shaky twig as it struggled to find its balance, providing a less usual image of the bird." September 2011 (Goosander Hide) TECH: Nikon D700, Nikkor 200-400mm f4 zoom lens at 340mm, ISO 720, f4, 1/2000 sec. Hide shelf platform with ball head. Cropped image about 50% of frame from horizontal image. |
