TITLE: Bittern on alert amongst reeds

INFO: "A few days later from the previous images and another visit to Ivy North Hide to see if the Bittern(s) will show.

Straight away the (north) Bittern could be seen just to the left in front of the hide. Lovely close views but no way of photographing it other than through those horrible tinted one-way windows. The poor quality of the window glass doesn't seem to have as much detrimental effect when using shorter focal length lenses so I decided to zoom out a bit and try a few full-length shots when the bird stretched up.

As usual, a bit more post-capture work needed to get a reasonable-looking image for web-display - the window glass gives a heavy blue tint, reduces contrast, sucks up two stops of light and reduces image sharpness/quality - hand-holding the heavy lens had me reaching for the lens VR (Vibration Reduction) on switch for the lowish shutter speed I had to use.

Here you can see that the bird has ruffled his feathers a bit, likely in response to seeing the south Bittern to the right of the hide (which showed itself better later)."
