TITLE:  Bittern walking out from behind tree

INFO: "Almost a month on from the previous image - I had visited Ivy North Hide a couple of times in between but with little success - there were at least two Bitterns seen around there but they were not showing very well the times I was in the hide! As usual I was regaled with stories of great views on the days that I wasn't there.....

On this occasion there was a Bittern on full view, for people looking through the dark windows - for us photographers at the single opening north window the bird was behind a large triple-trunked tree! - it seems that was one of its favoured fishing spots. Even though it was a bit distant it was still so frustrating knowing it was there in the open but just seeing tantalising glimpses of it in between and either side of the tree trunks..... Occasionally the whole bird could be seen but any photo still had part of the tree obtrusively in front.

After almost two hours of watching a tree and waiting for the Bittern to come out from behind it, at last it did! - and, fortunately, in nice late afternoon sunshine and in a relatively clear area as it headed to the wooded bank to the north of the hide. As it began its traverse from behind the tree I got this first shot just as it came into view, luckily catching it with one of those enormous feet raised.

I've cropped in quite a bit from the original full-frame vertical capture for this more impactful web image."
