TITLE: Bittern standing alert on twig-strewn ground

INFO: "As previous image, a few frames later as the Bittern pauses and stands upright on alert - I think he heard the footsteps on the gravel path as some people approached the hide. He's slightly fluffed himself out a bit, making him look a bit bigger.

He then carried on walking and disappeared amongst the reeds to left of the north window and continued to fish, during which time he was almost always obscured by the reeds and overhanging tree branches/twigs.

A bit distant for my lens on full-frame format so I've cropped in quite a bit for this web image."

February 2012 (Ivy North Hide)

TECH: Nikon D700, Nikkor 200-400mm f4 zoom lens at 350mm with 1.4x teleconverter, ISO 1400, f8, 1/500 sec.

Lens rested on beanbag on hide window sill.

Cropped image about 20% of frame (from full-frame FX-format image).
