TITLE: Bittern on twig-covered ground

INFO: "Same day same (north) Bittern as in the previous image - after being unceremoniously seen off by the south Bittern earlier, he'd made his way back towards one of his favoured fishing spots behind the tree to north of the hide.

I guess he wasn't having much fishing success as he soon 'sprinted' left across some open ground to the reedbeds amongst some trees, but then soon came back out to cross back again.

My lens/converter combination and the overcast conditions meant that I was struggling to get a fast enough shutter speed to stop his movement but, fortunately, this time he did pause briefly so that I could get this shot, though I've cropped in greatly for a more impactful image for web display."

February 2012 (Ivy North Hide)

TECH: Nikon D700, Nikkor 200-400mm f4 zoom lens at 400mm with 1.4x teleconverter, ISO 1400, f8, 1/180 sec.

Lens rested on hide window sill. VR on.

Cropped image about 20% of frame (from full-frame FX-format image).
