TITLE: Bittern in alert pose amongst reeds and Reedmace

INFO: "The following day from the previous image and I'd returned to Ivy North Hide in the afternoon but on arrival saw so many cars in the car parks that I guessed the sunny weather had brought in the visitors (and photographers...) - I wondered whether there would actually be any room in the hide! I needn't have worried as most of the cars turned out to be those of bird ringers and voluntary workers, and there were only a dozen people in the hide (of which only a couple were photographers). Strange how this hide can be so busy on some days and quite quiet on others.

I'd actually come back to Ivy North Hide to see if the Moorhen I'd photographed previously balancing around on top of a Reedmace(!) (see other images) would perform the same trick again for me (it didn't....) but happily saw the Bittern in the main reedbed and managed this clearer view of it through the reeds and Reedmace as it stretched up in alert (Grey Heron landed nearby) - fortunately it turned its head slightly once or twice and the sun caught its eye nicely.

Cropped in for web display, but the full frame image works also as the Bittern shows fairly clearly."
